What's New? March
2008
We're closing in on the release of the new BookCourier. However, we need to
push back the ship date to mid or late second quarter 2008 due to some technical
issues with a couple of our vendors. We apologize for the delay and hope you
will bear with us. We do have some new pricing information....
- For an upgraded BookCourier. Existing BookCourier
users get the best deal around. For only $149.00 plus shipping you can return your
existing BookCourier (minus the
accessories, the batteries, and the flash card) and we'll send you an
updated BookCourier. Please do not return your BookCouriers now! You must wait until the new BookCourier
is available.
- For a new BookCourier.
As we get closer to the ship date, we will announce the price of a new BookCourier. Check back for final pricing.
New BookCourier Features
- SD Memory. The new BookCourier will support SD (Secure Digital)
cards as well as compact flash cards. So you can take advantage of the
latest memory technology and maintain your investment in your existing
memory cards. In the first release, BookCourier will support SD cards up to
4GB with support for 8GB cards in a future update. BookCourier
will continue to support compact flash cards up to 4GB.
- USB 2.0. The new BookCourier will support the USB 2.0
communication protocol, allowing high speed data transfers from your PC and
BookCourier.
- Time Scale Modification (TSM). While BookCourier has always had
the ability to control the playback speed of text files, the new TSM feature
will now allow you to adjust the playback speed of audio files as well.
- New Audio Formats. The new BookCourier will play lots of new
audio file formats including OGG Vorbis, WMA, WAV PCM, and IMA-ADPCM. If
you're interested in the MP4 (AAC) and MIDI formats and would be willing to
pay an additional fee for the support, please contact us.
- State-of-the-Art Recording. Improved audio circuitry as well as
an external microphone jack will allow you to create great quality
recordings in a meeting or classroom setting.
- NLS Compatibility. NLS support will be available as a firmware
upgrade shortly after the new BookCourier starts shipping.
- DoubleTalk. BookCourier will continue to use the DoubleTalk voice
set. We agree that the DoubleTalk voices are not the most natural sounding
voices on the market today. However, if you speed up playback to get the
most out of your reading time, you'll find that DoubleTalk is easier to
understand than any other voice.
- More goodies. In the next firmware update following the release
of the new BookCourier, you'll see a number of features that people have
been craving, including character navigation in text files, direct
downloading for compatible files (so you can copy files to BookCourier without
using the Transfer Tool), and the ability to copy a folder with all its
files and subfolders from your PC to BookCourier.
